Move the BCFPI Server

Overview

This page details what you need to do to move your BCFPI Server software to a different computer, or to a different location on the same computer.

Instructions

  • Make a backup of BCFPI the files on your server - in partcular the files in the '[Old install Location]\Server' folder.
  • Uninstall the BCFPI Workstation software from all computers were it is installed
  • Uninstall the BCFPI Server software from your server
  • After uninstalling the BCFPI Server, some directories and files will remain. Your client data is in "[Old Install Location]\Server\DatLive". You should:
    • Copy this folder and all files it contains to the location where you want to install your new BCFPI Server ([New Install Location]), recreating the directories so you now have "[New Install Location]\Server\DatLive". For example, if the new install location for the BCFPI will be, "\\NewServer\Apps\BCFPI", then you need to create the '\Server\DatLive' path and move the files there, so you will have "\\NewServer\Apps\BCFPI\Server\DatLive" containing your live data.
  • You should delete all remaining BCFPI files and folders from your old server (including "[Old Install Location]\Server\DatLive", and all files that folder contains).
  • Run the BCFPI Server install on the new server, targeting "[New Install Location]" as the install destination (i.e. "\\NewServer\Apps\BCFPI", in my example).
    • While your data is now in "[New Install Location]\Server\DatLive", you should be using simply the new install location ("[New Install Location]") as the install destination.
  • Run the BCFPI on your Server and ensure that you can see all of your live data
  • Install the BCFPI Workstations on the other computers where you need to use the BCFPI Software
    • Switch the currrent database between the Demo and Live database at least once on each workstation
