Appendix XI - WINDOWS NT sp6a (SERVICE PACK 6a)
Note: This only applies to computers running Windows NT.
Our new install uses Windows Installer technology to run the install. Our install requires that you have Windows Installer 2.0 or newer installed on your computer before the install can run. Our install will automatically set this up if you don't already have it before the install is run.
For users with Windows NT, your copy of Windows NT must be upgraded to Service Pack 6a (sp6a) before Windows Installer 2.0 can be installed. Unfortunately, the Minsitry Compaq NT machines shipped with Service Pack 4 installed. You will need to upgrade to Service Pack 6a to install the new BCFPI software. Service Pack 6a is actually required by a lot of software that needs to run on Windows NT. Service Pack 6a also ensures full Year 2000 compliance for your computer.
How do I tell if I need this update?
Go to 'Start | Run...' in your Windows task bar, and type in the following command, then hit the [OK] button:
winver
This will pop up a dialog that will tell you what service pack you have installed. If you have a service pack less then 6a (i.e. 1-5), then you'll need to update your service pack.
How do I get the serivce pack?
Firstly, you should realize that no matter what service pack your starting from, service pack 6a is all you need to install. For example, if you're currently at service pack 4, you don't need to first install service pack 5. Rather, you can simply (and only) install service pack 6a.
Service Pack 6a is available free from Microsoft. You can download it from their website, or request a CD from them. Information about the service pack and how to install it is available at http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/SP6/allSP6.asp. The actual download is available at http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/SP6/128bitX86/default.asp.
